Take A Trip Back In Time With A Twilight History Tour

Want to hear colorful stories from Amarillo’s past? Come to Llano Cemetery for a twilight history tour on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Sponsored by Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, the tour will feature professional storytellers and Dr. Bill Green, the museum’s curator of history, who will be stationed throughout the oldest part of the cemetery telling tales about some of the city’s most memorable characters.

Guests will enter the cemetery through the gates on 34th Avenue. All other gates will be locked at dusk. Hosts will be at the gate distributing maps. The tour is self-guided, with guests walking from one story-telling location to another.

Storytellers will be performing from 5:30 until 8 p.m.

Cost of the tour will be $5 per person. Children under 3 years will be free. Proceeds will benefit the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum, Llano Cemetery and the High Plains Storytellers.

Reservations are not needed.

Good walking shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather and a flashlight are recommended.

For more information about this unique experience, contact Amy David at the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum at 806-651-2233 or by e-mail at adavid@pphm.wtamu.edu.

As an art form storytelling dates back to ancient history. Across time it has been used to entertain, explain and pass on the culture.

Even in today’s world of made-for-television movies that interpret books and events, storytelling remains an essential part of the human experience, building a bridge between the storyteller and the listener.
